How Your Benefits Work

Anthem will cover the COVID-19 vaccine. Anthem members will continue to not have out-of-pocket costs for the vaccine after the national public health emergency ends, on May 11, 2023. This applies to all members, regardless of the type of health plan they have or which doctor or healthcare professional they choose to visit for COVID-19 vaccination.

California has extended this coverage until November 11, 2023. After that time, members will have out-of-pocket costs for vaccines given by healthcare professionals who are not in our plans’ networks. If you have questions or would like support, chat with us on the Sydney Health mobile app or Anthem.com. If you prefer, call us at the Member Services number on your ID card.

COVID-19 diagnostic testing

After the public health emergency ends on May 11, 2023, Anthem will continue to cover COVID-19 diagnostic tests without cost shares applied. After November 11, 2023, members will have out-of-pocket costs for COVID-19 diagnostic tests given by healthcare professionals who are not in our plans’ networks. Follow this link to find healthcare professionals and facilities in your plan’s network. Diagnostic tests, under the direction of a medical clinician, show whether or not someone has COVID-19. Diagnostic tests are for people who have symptoms of COVID-19. They also are for people who have no symptoms but know or suspect that they have recently been exposed to someone who has COVID-19.

COVID-19 screening

After the public health emergency ends on May 11, 2023, Anthem will continue to cover COVID-19 screening tests without out-of-pocket costs. After November 11, 2023, members will have out-of-pocket costs for screening tests given by healthcare professionals who are not in our plans’ networks. Follow this link to find healthcare professionals and facilities in your plan’s network. If you have questions or would like support, chat with us on the Sydney Health mobile app or Anthem.com. If you prefer, call us at the Member Services number on your ID card.

Screening tests show whether or not someone has COVID-19. They are for people who have no symptoms of COVID-19 and no known or suspected exposure to people who have COVID-19.

Over-the-counter COVID-19 tests

California law requires some plans to cover eight over-the-counter, at-home COVID-19 tests per month for each covered person after May 11, 2023. Use the link below to submit a claim and see if your plan covers over-the-counter tests.

  • Save your receipts when you purchase over-the-counter COVID-19 diagnostic tests. You'll need to submit them when you apply for reimbursement.
  • Follow this link to submit a claim or log in to the SydneySM Health mobile app, go to Claims, and choose Submit a Claim.
  • If your employer has asked you to submit receipts to your pharmacy benefit plan, please don’t submit them here.

If you have questions or would like support, chat with us on the Sydney Health mobile app or Anthem.com/ca. If you prefer, call us at the Member Services number on your ID card.

People who are diagnosed with COVID-19 may have long-term symptoms. Anthem case management nurses are ready to help coordinate care for long-term symptoms of COVID-19. If you’d like additional support, please call the Member Services number on your member ID and ask for an Anthem Case Management Nurse.
