Anthem Enhanced Choice Health Insurance: A New Option for a Changing World
Anthem wants everyone to have health insurance coverage, including those individuals and families whose employment and financial situations do not quite fit the mold for traditional plans. Just as our home and work situations have changed, health insurance must change and adapt to meet new expectations. That is why we created Anthem Enhanced Choice.
What is Anthem Enhanced Choice?
Anthem Enhanced Choice plans support a growing number of people who are not covered by traditional health insurance for various reasons.
- Their employer may not offer health insurance.
- They work side jobs or part-time jobs as a means of employment and do not qualify for health insurance with their employers.
- They are independent contractors, consultants or gig workers.
- They are recently unemployed.
- Even though they are employed, they cannot afford a traditional health insurance plan through the Affordable Care Act without a health insurance subsidy.
What does Anthem Enhanced Choice cover?
Anthem Enhanced Choice coverage includes many of the same comprehensive benefits of employer-based or stand-alone health insurance plans such as:
- 100% preventive care coverage.
- Prescription drug coverage with affordable out-of-pocket copays.
- Access to doctors and hospitals in the Anthem network.
- No referrals for specialist visits.
- Pre-existing condition coverage right from the start for covered services if member enrollment is approved.
What does Anthem Enhanced Choice cost?
Anthem Enhanced Choice offers six plan options to fit your budget and coverage needs for you and your family. Coverage and cost varies based on where you live, the plan you choose, your age, gender, medical history and tobacco usage.
While Anthem Enhanced Choice plans are not compatible with the Affordable Care Act, they are medically underwritten. Consumers receive essential coverage while being able to save with lower premiums versus unsubsidized Affordable Care Act plans. With more affordability, you have the opportunity to round out your Anthem Enhanced Choice plan coverage with dental and vision coverage for you and your family.
Anthem Enhanced Choice for flexibility
Anthem Enhanced Choice plans were also designed to accommodate changing life situations, providing coverage for nearly 36 months, and you only have to apply once.1
Another benefit of an Anthem Enhanced Choice plan is that you can apply year round, so you are not restricted by enrollment periods. Anyone within eligible age limits may apply, though factors like height, weight, and medical history are considered when determining eligibility and pricing. 1 Nearly 18 months of coverage for Wisconsin. In Ohio, coverage is for 364 days, with the option to apply for additional terms (364 days each).
Anthem Enhanced Choice coverage is not required to comply with certain federal market requirements for health insurance, principally those contained in the Affordable Care Act. Be sure to check your policy carefully to make sure you are aware of any exclusions or limitations regarding coverage of preexisting conditions or health benefits (such as hospitalization, emergency services, maternity care, preventive care, prescription drugs, and mental health and substance use disorder services). Your policy might also have lifetime and/or annual dollar limits on health benefits. If this coverage expires or you lose eligibility for this coverage, you might have to wait until an open enrollment period to get other health insurance coverage.
